Public Safety DAS System

SENA-TECH provides in-building communication solutions to ensure your facility remains compliant with local public safety zoning laws. It is important to have a reliable Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to avoid having “radio dead zones” in your building. Public safety DAS systems are essential to first responders and emergency communications.

Benefits of Public Safety DAS

The initial benefit of having a reliable DAS system may be the difference between life or death in an emergency. DAS refers to any system providing a wireless service through the use of distributed antenna systems. This provides emergency responders a reliable line of communication for emergency situations within your building.

Having dedicated emergency communication is important to first responders, building owners, and employees who may be in need of medical assistance after catastrophic events, such as natural disasters.

First responders will be able to maintain communication to work as a team and provide the most efficient help possible. Fires, security threats, and natural disasters, among others, would warrant the need for a reliable DAS installation.

What To Know About Public Safety DAS Systems

System Update Requirement
The Florida Fire Prevention Code (NFPA 1) has several deadlines approaching, one of which requires all businesses to update their systems to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations. Building owners are responsible for the safety of occupants in their facilities, in addition to ensuring public safety.

Coverage
Businesses will be required to meet the coverage requirements of the International Fire Code (IFC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The IFC only requires 95% coverage, but NFPA requires 99% coverage in all important areas as designated by the local fire department. The NFPA also requires 90% of general areas to be covered.

SENA-TECH has the experience needed to ensure your new or existing DAS system complies with all IFC and NFPA coverage requirements.

Antenna Isolation
NFPA requires that antenna isolation be 15 dB higher than the amplifier’s gain. Current systems may need upgrading to include additional antennas as signal strength and coverage increases.

Frequency Updates
Our DAS system installations accommodate for frequency updates. This is an important feature of maintaining a reliable DAS system for public safety and first responders. Both IFC and NFPA support the following frequencies:

  • VHF
  • UHF
  • 700 MHz
  • 800 MHZ

Battery Backup
We ensure that your public safety DAS system has sufficient battery backup in case of a power outage. This is essential when there are situations where the building loses power or is required to be shut off. All of our installations ensure the battery backup will last a minimum of 24 hours using the latest equipment.

Minimum Signal Strength
Both the IFC and NFPA state the minimum signal strength required is -95 dB. Our experienced technicians consider the antenna density required to meet or surpass all the IFC and NFPA requirements.
